About Us
Established in 1853, St. George’s College is one of India’s oldest and most prestigious educational institutions, with a glorious legacy of academic excellence, discipline and contribution to the nation. Over the decades, our school has produced several distinguished alumni who have brought immense pride to India. Among our most celebrated achievements is the school’s unique contribution to India’s Olympic hockey history. Four legendary Olympians from St. George’s College — George Marthins, Maurice A. Gateley, William James Goodsir Cullen, and Carlyle Carroll Tapsell — were part of the Indian hockey teams in the 1928, 1932, and 1936 Olympics, playing alongside the legendary Major Dhyan Chand and contributing to India’s historic gold medal victories. In addition, the college proudly counts among its alumni: Justice H.S. Bedi – Former Judge, Supreme Court of India Air Chief Marshal Denis La Fontaine – Former Chief of the Air Staff General Shankar Roychowdhury – Former Chief of the Army Staff Major Haripal Singh Ahluwalia – First Indian to scale Mount Everest
