About Us

Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, is one of the oldest boarding schools in Asia, having been founded on  28th July 1859 by Bishop George Edward Lynch Cotton. The School has had a colourful history of more than 165 years, spanning the Indian freedom movement, both World Wars, and Independence. It has transitioned from being a school started solely for the sons of British officers, both civil and military, into a school which is purely Indian, albeit with old ‘Public School’ traditions and customs; an old-fashioned sense of courtesy and etiquette, coupled with a fiercely competitive spirit in both games as well as other activities. Each boy should leave BCS with a set of values and principles that guide his actions. These include having the courage to act when injustice occurs and to care for those less fortunate.  Our Mission Statement is “Bishop Cotton School strives to achieve and maintain the highest standard of excellence in its programme of total education empowering men rooted in India’s heritage to live as committed and good human beings contributing positively to the country and world at large”
