About Us

Welham Girls’ School, Dehradun was founded in 1957 with the objective of offering equal educational opportunities to young Indian women in independent India. The Welham Girls’ community has grown from ten girls in 1957 to its current strength of 540 girls. Affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE), New Delhi, Welham Girls’ School offers contemporary boarding school education rooted in Indian culture and traditions from classes 6 to 12. Welham Girls' School also has been synonymous with producing individuals who embody its motto: "Artta Shanti Phala Vidya" – the purpose of knowledge is to bring peace to the suffering. The alumnae of the school have carved a niche for themselves globally and yet the spirit to ‘give and not count the cost’ remains unchanged. The school has undertaken projects aimed at community development, environmental conservation, cultural exchange, and educational empowerment. The school is also cognizant of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) set by the UN and undertakes several projects that are in tune with the goals. The school is a member of several prestigious national and international organisations such as Round Square (RS), World Leading Schools’ Association (WLSA), International Coalition for Girls’ Education (ICGS), American Field Service (AFS), IAYP, BSAI.
