10 Education Leadership Retreat Education Leadership There was experiential learning and galore eloquence at the Education Leadership Retreat 2024 held at Pinegrove School, Dharampur. EducationWorld in collaboration with the Boarding Schools Association of India, embroidered under the strategic guidance of Mr. Bhavin Shah, CEO, EducationWorld. Celebrated academicians of the country presented stimulating talks on the whole gamut of education and leadership. The tranquility of the lush Pinegrove hills added to the pleasure.    The first day unfolded with the Grovians delighted to welcome over a hundred esteemed and prominent guests from across the Indian subcontinent and abroad. The guests were treated to a guided tour of Pinegrove School’s scenic, familial and state-of-the-art campus with an insight into Pinegrove’s innovative approach to education, thriving under the exceptional leadership of the Executive Director, Capt AJ Singh and Director Administration, Mrs. Samiksha.  The industrious and talented students of Pinegrove School were immensely honoured to perform for the august gathering and extend sincere hospitality.   The next day started with an impactful keynote address by the distinguished Dr. Sumer Bahadur Singh, President, Boarding Schools Association of India (BSAI). He emphasized on leadership with empathy and a sense of service, picking up values from the ancient gurukul system of India whilst developing a system of student governance by students, conflict resolution and maximizing of soft skills.   An array of four impeccable masterclasses by the venerated bigwigs of the education arena were clearly masterstrokes and a great privilege and honour to listen to, for all in attendance at the revered auditorium of Pinegrove School, Dharampur, ‘The Colosseum’, which ended up visibly revitalized.   Dr. Ameeta Mulla Wattal, Chairperson and Executive Director, Education Innovations and Training, DLF Foundation Schools and Scholarship Programmes, beautifully explained the importance of ‘Empowering Teachers for Classrooms of the Future’. With captivating stories and delicately knit threads of incredible poetry, she encouraged all to break away from the automization of education and move towards the spirituality of education, to take a stand for something different and not just better, becoming aware of detail at the smallest level, encouraging ‘relectivities’ and ‘brain brushing’, and all the while maintaining flow and connect between the outer and the inner world, where a child may find his own voice and visibility in a creative classroom.   Dr Prajapati Trivedi, Former Secretary to Government of India, Cabinet Secretariat & Visiting Faculty, Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University accentuated the necessity of ‘Building High - Performing Schools: A Primer for Education Leaders’. A seasoned Economist, he explained that education ultimately depends on the quality of systems . He shared lessons from his experience and described determinants of performance and institutional capacity. Highlighting that good principles of management are transcendental, he discussed system improvement and solutions stemming from the habits of highly effective schools.   Mr. Sandeep Kumar, Former Ambassador, Embassy of India - Dublin, Ireland, elaborately discussed ‘Cultivating Global Citizenship in Schools’. Portraying real life stories with art, he shared his beautifully crafted art pieces as well as anecdotes from his own journey that stressed on building sensitive and proactive global citizens.  He emphasized that teachers’ intercultural attitudes affected global attitudes and that national interest was directly linked to global interest. Following a brief Q&A session, he responded that in understanding various facets of global citizenship, the core values of humaneness, compassion, empathy, resilience, sustainability, appreciation of art and importance of health took the forefront, irrespective of opportunities to travel abroad.   Dr. Jagpreet Singh, Headmaster, The Doon School, Dehradun, powerfully delved into ‘Crisis Management & Resilience in Education Leadership’. Catching the bull by the horns with a pre-emptive spirit, he stressed on the crucial importance of being pro-active and defined the thin line between crisis and risk. He gave examples of various kinds of crisis and illuminated ways to prevent them with compliances and public SOPs in place. With an effective crisis management plan and realizing the 5 Cs of crisis management, he stated that the importance of crisis communication cannot in any way be undermined.   Pinegrove’s astral day culminated with a stimulating Panel Discussion on ‘Redefining Assessment Practices: Moving Beyond Traditional Testing to Measuring Holistic Student Growth’, compellingly moderated by Mr. Bhavin Shah, CEO, EducationWorld, with a distinguished panel consisting of Mr. Rashid Sharfuddin, Headmaster, SelaQui International School, Dehradun; Mr. Ankur Vohra, Head of Institutional Partnerships, Masters’ Union, Gurugram; Dr. Anirudh Gupta, CEO, DCM Group of Schools, Punjab; Ms. Anita Sharma, Principal, Utpal Shanghvi Global School, Mumbai, and Ms. Manjot Dhillon, Director, Invictus International School, Amritsar. This brainstorming session endeavoured to unravel the gap between higher education and school education, celebrating holistic development, thus making it a wonderful and not a stressful journey.   Additionally at Pinegrove, Mr. Shubhankar Pathank from EduNext Technologies brought to light innovative digital solutions for day to day noticeable challenges faced in schools, and Ms. Deepika Singh, Former Chief Minister’s Fellow and TEDX Speaker, exposed the hidden dangers targeting schools and children highlighting Cyber Threat as a stark reality and grave concern.   Graciously present, as an esteemed attendee at Pinegrove, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Surendra Kulkarni, Secretary, Mayo College General Council, was educator for the fifth and much-anticipated masterclass on ‘Creating a Transformational School: Approaches and Strategies’ to be held at The Lawrence School, Sanawar, the following day.   Uniting brilliant intellectuals and visionary leaders of the country, to collaborate, innovate, and chart a course for the future of Indian education, that is both impactful and sustainable, has been an experience like no other. The phenomenal Education Leadership Retreat 2024 has indisputably been the bee's knees. When the best of the best unified for a noble purpose, traverse the humbled portals of Pinegrove School, Dharampur, gratitude is an understatement. 3
